Dues and licenses for fishing in Finland
If you catch fish on a simple fishing rod, consisting of a hook and a fishing line, even under the ice, you don’t need any permission. You can catch fish free of charge in Finnish sea areas of water and almost in all lakes.
But if there are some other equipments, except fishing line and a hook then you will need two documents:
- certificate about state paying due for fishing
- receipt about paying a local license for fishing
The price of a state fee is 4,2 euros for one week (2001). Children under 18 and adults over 65 and those who only watch the process of fishing and don’t take part in fishing don’t have to pay.
The second necessary document is a license for fishing. As a rule, fishing on a lake is cheaper than fishing on rapids. There are no limits on a number of sold licenses on lakes, so you don’t need to book beforehand, moreover you can take what you have caught for eating.
You can buy licenses at the owners of the cottages or at a local fishing guide.
In Aland islands there are their own rules of fishing and there is their own system for licenses.
